Stallions for 06
hi everyone. there are a few interesting stallions coming onto the scene in 06. I am looking for a son of Carson City. The ones I am looking at of course are Pollards Vision and State City. how well does everyone think Carson City is doing as a sire of sires? They both stand for 10k. I noticed also that Sunday break has dropped to 7500. Does anyone know if there was a reason for this? his babies seem to be selling fairly well. And Trippi is staying at 7500. he is a top 10 freshman sire that has a couple of real nice 2 yos that i look forward to watching next year.

City Zip and Five Star Day both seem to be off to reasonable starts, although I'm not sure either is worth the $15,000 at which they're currently listed.
Last month, I did visit Wintergreen Stallion Station and saw both Five Star Day and Pollard's Vision. Although both are by Carson City, they could not be more dissimilar physically. Five Star Day (out of a Vanlandingham mare) is large sprinter type, while Pollard's Vision (out of a Dixieland Band mare) is smaller and rather refined. He doesn't fit type with our mare, but I actually liked Pollard's Vision quite a bit (and reportedly has a great disposition). Seeing how the market goes crazy over first-year sires, he might make an interesting choice.

Sunday Break is in his 3rd year (or bubble year) and Gainesway wants to ensure he gets solid support. Apparently they didn't have as many applications last year as hoped, thus the drop.
He didn't have the best race record and his family isn't one of the best known, so he is a little more difficult to market. However, most of his foals that I have seen have been solid. So, the sales numbers are not much of a surprise.
Personally, I sent a mare to him even though I had some concerns. The filly is really nice... in fact, so nice I sent another mare to him in 2005. As Warren Buffett would say, "... if you liked him at $8500, then you should love him at $7500...".
