Any thoughts on this guy?

I adore Pulpit and I just thought SM was so talented.....unfortunately, fragile, like his sire. His first weanlings appear to be very well thought of, which I'm very happy about. Thoughts on whether Sky Mesa will turn out to be a good sire and, if so, what kind? (sprint, middle distances)......

Sky Mesa is one GRAND thoroughbred stallion. A spectacular...powerhouse of a physical specimen.

He is a VERY special individual...WOW!!!

I've just got to get to KY and see him then; I've read that he's just gorgeous. Maybe I can visit Indy, Mineshaft and Pulpit as well.........!

I saw him last year, briefly, and I remember thinking that he looked more like a warmblood than a Thoroughbred. I've been told, however, that he's a bit crooked.

I will say...Three Chimneys has been known to keep an abundance (maybe an overabundance) of weight on Sky Mesa...to that extent I can understand your comment that he looks more like a "warmblood than a thoroughbred."

Other than that though (and from my perspective) I see him as a very special young stallion. He has a powerhouse body...lots of bone...and is very well conformed and proportioned..including an enormous, deep and powerful hip.

I view him as very special...a WOW kind of horse...

...but, to each his/her own.

FOS, the warmblood comment wasn't meant as an insult. I happen to quite like warmbloods.

I was trying to say that in the brief time that I saw him he struck me as a big bodied, handsome horse. (Although I have since been told that he's not the most correct stallion.)

As you might imagine...I am quite taken by Sky Mesa. I find him to be a massive, powerhouse of a stallion...with plenty of bone and substance...and I don't recall him being "a bit crooked" as you indicate you've been told.

Arguably flaws (to varying degrees) can be found in the conformational (and physical) structure of each and every thoroughbred...with that in mind I look forward to seeing Sky Mesa again...and hope that after you have an opportunity to see him again...we might compare notes.

Pulpit really does sire some magnificent looking horses. Chekhov is one of the best-looking horses I've ever seen, at least until he steps into the starting gate.

If I remember correctly, Sky Mesa's short career was caused by recurring foot problems, which Pulpits seem wont to have.

He's certainly a stunner in the looks department!

Sky Mesa is a beast and IMO will be a grand sire.. The price is steep but you may get a champion. He was a talent and by a special sire in PULPIT

And will more than likely be just as sound as his sire, grandsire, and great grand sire.

He's definitely a magnificent horse. And quite massive, brought on perhaps because I think he's the only stud that Three Chimneys doesn't ride regularly. We have a Sky Mesa weanling colt that is definitely a looker.

He was really talented, wasn't he? His Hopeful signaled that; lord, I was disappointed (crushed, actually) when he had to pull out of the BC Juvenile. He, his sire and grandsire have given me some of my most bitter horse racing memories: Indy's scratching on the eve of the Derby was .........well, I'm still pretty devastated about it. Pulpit was a brilliant horse and could have won the Derby if he hadn't been injured; Sky Mesa was never able to fulfill his promise. The wonderful thing about horse racing is that talented horses have second chances at glory through their offspring.

Love Sky Mesa and Mineshaft- crossing my fingers that the live up to their pedigree.
