I've got seasons to Smart Guy, the ultimate outcross

Postby BargainBlueblood » Wed Nov 30, 2005 9:56 pm

I posted this news at the end of another thread, but kind of felt it deserved its own subject line, so here goes...

Grade 3 multiple stakes winner Smart Guy will stand the 2006 breeding season at Fox Tale Stud in Coopersburg, PA. The son of Smarten out of the Talc mare Royal Tali stood the previous four seasons at Conowingo Lake Farm in Maryland to a limited number of mares due to a suspensory injury, but now that the horse has made a full recovery, his owner, David Malatesta, has decided to make him available to a full book for the coming breeding season.

"I was so impressed by the size and balance of Smart Guy's foals that I told Mr. Malatesta he'd be crazy not to promote this horse in a state with slots-fueled stallion awards, like Pennsylvania," said classic-winning trainer Tim Ritchey, who guided Smart Guy to a career that included a score in the Pennsylvania Derby (g. III) among his six wins and $462,740 lifetime earnings. "Smart Guy was as durable and honest as they come, and he could carry his speed over a distance of ground," Ritchey said. "It seems fitting that he's returning to the state where he scored his greatest victory. I plan on breeding some of my mares to him this year, too."

Smart Guy will stand for a fee of $1,500 live foal, and $1,000 for PA mares. "We're going to treat him as if he were a freshman stallion, and breeders should know we'll be cutting deals on seasons to mares with a lot of black-type or with six-figure earnings," said Fox Tale owner Vince Tucciarone. He noted Smart Guy, who is a full brother to multiple stakes winner Maragold Princess, is free of Mr. Prospector, Northern Dancer, and Bold Ruler blood, making him a rare outcross opportunity. "Midatlantic breeders know the heart, the gameness, and the earnings potential associated with both Smarten and Talc," said Tucciarone. "While there aren't too many stallions available to keep that blood alive, Smart Guy provides a one-two punch at an unbeatable price."

I'll be handling season sales for this guy, so let me know if anyone's interested! Thanks for listening!

Here's another stallion who's getting a lot of interest now that he's moved to PA. We are offering discounted late-season deals to this guy, so please inquire if you have any interest. Tim and Janet Ritchey have sent four of their own mares to this guy in 2006, and have several Smart Guy babies on the ground that they love.

I do the marketing, advertising, and pedigree consulting for Fox Tale. Wonderful farm, wonderful people, and in Smart Guy, a rare chance to get both Smarten and Talc in one place!

Very nice looking boy...best of luck and look forward to seeing what his babies do. Smarten was one of my favorites of the "old" Maryland lines.
