What do people think of this stallion? He has an excellent race record, nice pedigree, and, from what I've heard, is impressive looking as well. Does anyone have any thoughts, either positive or negative, about him?

Mike, this is an AMAZING stallion ( and I have no connection to him whatsoever) He is physically perfect and a lovely animal. He produces well when bred to even mediocre mares. Lord only knows what would happen if he was bred to an amazing mare!!! I don't know why he has been used so little out here. I have never had a mare to him either so I am just as guilty 
So if anyone in Washington has a mare that they want to do a foal share on let me know! 
My good ones are all going to my own stud this year so once again I won't have a mare for him....

Defensive Play is an outstanding stallion and wish he was on the East Coast. I had a colt from him which I sold. He was "nice" in every respect. My friends also had one by him and he is just as nice and doing well and they are really pleased with him also. I don't think you can go wrong with him.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the HUGE equine being that Defensive Play is.
Yes he was a heck of race horse...but my first impression when I set eyes on Defensive Play upon his retirement was...Holy Cow...ENORMOUS. Maybe that's why Juddmonte originally cut him loose rather than stand him at their own facility.
Defensive Play might have some success in a regional market...he certainly did not have much when he was in Kentucky...regardless...
...he just might flourish in the great northwest ...good luck to all.

Defensive Play was somewhat dissapointing whilst in New Zealand. He was capable of getting the odd good one eg Millward, GR1 winner at 2yrs in Australia. He also bred a good filly in No Alimony to an Ack Ack mare which means that she was line bred to The Squaw. A friend of mine had a very promsing filly also linebred to same family, unfortunately she met with a fatal accident. They were really devastated as they were convinced that she was going to be something special. If I were to breed to him I would follow this pattern and hope like heck for a filly !
