COCKY

Very interesting pedigree. Any thoughts on crosses? Stands in PA. Doesn't take much to discern that I'm a SHAM fan, but I like his top line also. I'm thinking that a SECRETARIAT line broodmare might do well with this guy. Thoughts?

Cocky thoughts

Postby rudydee » Mon Dec 26, 2005 8:16 am

From someone who I respect that knows the horse very well ...

"To some Cocky is unproven, a non-stakes winner and unfashionably bred. The reality is this horse is simply beautifully conformed with a great disposition. He had loads of racing talent. He was the number one horse in Frankel's barn at one time. Consider that Alice Chandler still owns Cocky, maybe she knows something you don't."

After that scolding, my partners and I sent our stakes winning mare to Cocky.

And that stakes winning mare was out of? By what stallion? Line? Alternatives? Results?

Well, if nothing else, that is a very nice female line behind him. This is the family of Cozzene, Fort Wood, Dixie Union, Allen's Prospect, Timber Country, and Bianconi. Mid-atlantic breeders with Allen's Prospect mares might find him both a useful male-line outcross (Ribot over Sham) and a nice linebreeding target.
