Volponi to Korea

Postby vaponydoc » Wed Dec 28, 2005 10:27 pm

I am sorry to see Volponi leave the States. I don't know how his numbers were for mares bred in 2005, but he covered 80 in 2004.

Any thoughts on his departure?

I'm sorry to see him go, too. He was a game little horse. As long as they take good care of him, he's probably better off there. He'll be a big star in Korea. They're really trying to improve their stud book. Here, he didn't get a lot of respect. Hopefully, he'll do well as a sire there and perhaps come back to the States as a pensioner.

I do remember hearing that his numbers were quite low in 2005 (around 24 or so? it would require further investigation). Physically, I heard a lot of complaints about him on this board, people were going to evaluate him and coming away shaking their heads. I suppose it was the memory of his Breeder's Cup that got him a decent book the first year, and by the second there were "new and improved" Breeder's Cup heroes to visit.

I enjoyed watching him in his racing days and I hope that the Koreans appreciate him more than we Americans did.
