Does anyone know if Cassaleria (1979) is still alive and where he might be? Does anyone have an old photo of him? He is my mare's sire. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry but Cass died a while back. There are a few people on the board who know more about him than I do so you might want to post this question on the General Disscussion forum instead of here.

Thank you for the answer. . . although a sad one. I would love a photo of him. Do you have any ideas where I might get one? I am new to this forum, and I first posted my question on the Information Seekers, but I got no responses. I guess I need to do more exploring of the site to better understand where to post what. Thanks again. Hopefully those who knew him will see my posts.

Cass raced in Calif. and I think he was trained by Ron McMally, do you know who trained him and I can ask his trainer for a photo of him?

Here is an excerpt from an article I found:

"It is believed that no one-eyed horse has ever won the Derby, and the last one even to try was Cassaleria, who finished 13th for trainer Ron McAnally when he represented the curiously named 20/20 Stable in 1982.

Cassaleria, who won the El Camino Real Derby at Bay Meadows three months before the Kentucky Derby, had a dry right socket, the result of the rubber-legged colt's staggering into a foaling-shed wall minutes after he was born."

I am a newbie to the wonderful world of owning a thoroughbred so I am unsure as to how to go about getting a photo (or a scanned image to be emailed) of a horse from so long ago.

I appreciate any help.

I asked Cass trainer Ron Mc Nally if he knew of where you could get a photo of Cass, and Ron said he will look for one in his home, as he is sure he has a photo of Cass.

Ron remembered Cass only had one eye, and had the courage and heart to win many races for him. Thanks Ron you are a real class gentleman.

OH thank you so very much for asking him! I will gladly pay any copying charges mailing charges whatever. This means alot to me.

Please thank him for me for looking, and I will keep my fingers crossed that he finds a photo.
