Pedigree Query

i am thinking of sending a mare to Ecton Park. My only default on him is that he is a close relative to Bankers Gold who isnt making a lot of noise as a sire.Any opinions?

Ecton Park is a talented son of Forty Niner with some talented runners already. He's a little toed-in, but otherwise very nice and athletic. His book is full already; I tried.

Sons of Forty Niner are always worth considering. How about a grandson of Forty Niner in Trippi who is by End Sweep? He really intrigues me as he was a crack sprinter winning the Vosburgh/Tom Fool/Riva Ridge and Swale stakes all going 7/8s but he also won the Flamingo going a 1 1/8. He's out of an outstanding producer Jealous Appeal(Valid Appeal) making him a half brother to Appealing Skier and 1/2 sister to Miss Jealski and Jealous Forum. He's listed at $7,500 but is off to a slow start at stud so I'm thinking $5,000 is doable for those wiling to take a chance. He's a nice looking horse judging by his picture but I have never seen his confirmation upclose nor head-on.

As the owner of a mare already booked to Ecton Park for 2006, I guess my view is not entirely objective. He's an athletic looking individual who has produced 26% 2YO winners from all foals - a very high number - and 10% of his first-crop foals have already earned black type. They include French Park (Grade II winner), Parkhimonbroadway (placed in Grade II Remsen), and Justawalkinthepark, whose owners reportedly turned down a seven-figure offer after his maiden win. When you add in recent Fair Grounds SW Kingsfield, he's sired 4 horses who earned 90+ Beyer figures as 2YOs from a modestly-sized first crop. Also, he seems to have pretty good-sized foal crops on the way.

As for Trippi, I have not seen him personally. He was a neat race horse, but I seem to recall that Dogwood paid a rather modest price (about $70,000) for him, considering the fact that Appealing Skier had already accomplished a fair amount on the track. I guess I'd have to take good look at him physically before I sent a mare his way.

Another poster on this site said that Trippi's races had to be very carefully selected because he was very fragile framed. And tends to pass it on

I shared a house with Trippi's exercise rider and she said they always worried he was going to break down. He moved horribly (sort of a piston action) and he wasn't built the greatest either.
