Hi

I thinking of sending a mare to Choisir this year. I saw him last year and was very taken by him. What do people think of him as a stallion?

Thanks

Dave,
We saw him last week at the stallion do and I love him as well. Super fast racehorse, great stamp, but what kills me is his pedigree. It's just not very strong, but this is only an opinion. His has every opportunity to get top class racehorses. I am considering using him myself, but can't make up my mind, I always go back to the pedigree.

Have to say he's one good looking horse, great presence.
But I'm with you, his female tail line is very weak. That's the only thing. But the mare I'm considering is a speedy mare, who's a half to a stakes winning juvenile, who was also Gr.1 placed as a 2yr old, and her dam, was stakes placed as a juvenile. So my mare has a good female pedigree.
Ahh all these decisions to be made!!

Saw Choisir race and thought he is a hell of a horse. You might be a bit concerned about his damside, allthough Silly Season was a very speedy animal, won a lot of races. I am a fan of the Hyperion breed, so I like Hornbeam in a pedigree.
I would say, go for it, in fact every breed is a bit of a gamble.

Go for it. You won't get them faster than him in your neck of the woods. The other thing is that he was one really tough racehorse. Forget the pedigree because if one left it to that we wouldn't have Danzig!

UkB, personally I wouldn't risk it, there is nothing obvious on his dam side but he is a great example of what can be achieved with some planning and luck.

What class of BMS was Lunchtime? The 2nd and 3rd dams are a big drop in class from the 1st. dam.

He hasn't done too badly but unfortunately the Stud Book site has been down all afternoon so I can't check how many broodmares are recorded. The mares' progeny have won around $8.3m and include South African G1 performer, Greys Inn.

The first bunch of Choisir's yearlings went under the hammer at the Magic Millions recently. 21 sold at the Premier session for an average of $115k. 4 sold at the next session at an average of $45k. I didn't have a look at very many of them so can't really provide an opinion on type.

For some reason I don't think he is stamping them but I may be wrong.

He was an outstanding individual from day one and won his first start as an early 2 year old coming from behind. It was only later that he started racing on the pace.

I have a gut feel that he may be a hit and miss type due mainly to his female family and I would proceed with caution.
