Other than UNUSUAL HEAT, are there any consistently good turf sires in California?
Thanks,

California Turf Sires
Storm Creek (29% of earnings) is actually a very good turf sire, I think more so than a dirt sire. Bertrando (28% of earnings) & In Excess (29% of earnings) are also very good. Bartok to me is very good value if you're going to race.
Unusual Heat ranked 23rd in the nation thru 30 Oct 05 by turf earnings ($1.2 million) and 63% of earnings.

Slewvescent will get you a turf runner--of his 5 stakes winners (out of a whopping 154 foals), one won a Gr-1 on turf and the other was Gr-3 placed on turf. Roughly 1/3 of his total earnings are on the grass, and even without Gr-1 Ringaskiddy, he is still about that number. What he does seem to throw constantly is big-time stamina, courtesy of his stamina-rich damline AND his solid chef-de-race damsire.

California Turf Sires
Sorry, but I forgot to add Event of the Year, ranked 5th in Western Region & California, by earnings.

My only concern with him is that he would create a 2 x 3 to Seattle Slew sireline to broodmare sireline. I've heard that close inbreeding to SS is not good for soundness. Is that true?

Atticus
That's a horse I really like both looks (I haven't seen him in person, just the web site), race record, breeding, and he shown he can get the big horse. The negative is he's was very upside down on his AEI vs CI prior to High Fly coming along, who is out of a very good mare. He got a negative review by Thoroughbred review, so read that if you haven't already. Myself, I would breed to him because he's proven he can get the "big horse". He's gotten over 100 mares last year, so he went from 4K to 5K, not a big deal.

I should have mentioned that the mare is by Tsunami SlewMy bad
Very sorry
Has anyone seen Atticus in person? He set a world record at a mile on turf and is siring turf and dirt runners. And has a Grade I winner. Any known negatives on him?
The negative about Atticus is readily seen in his record. Take out High Fly and the only other North American SW last year was Atticus Kristy, winner of an ungraded $50,000 stakes at Churchill. High Fly last year represented almost half his North American earnings. Yes he had one of the biggest horses among all the California based sires and people will flock to him for that reason. His median runner was a little more unexciting. For around the same money, you can go to Benchmark, Formal Gold, Bartok, Memo, Swiss Yodeller etc that seem to have better averages overall.

I try not to listen to the voices in my head.
But sometimes they have such good ideas

Beau Genius is not ranked in the top 20 California sires by Turf Earnings (California), though he is ranked 5th in the midwest region with earnings of $154,324 (5 turf runners) of which $102,630 can be attributed to Beau Happy. He is actually not ranked in the 75 horses listed for Ca. turf earnings.

Interesting IW. I like his topside but his bottom side is hard to chart. Anyone have the Euorpean APR that could post his female family?
Need a really strong turf miler, with good speed and classicity balance and an excellent female family, that can move a couple of mares up.
One mare is a Seattle Slew line mare. The other is from the Icecapade line. Atticus is an A++ Nick w/Seattle Slew (2 of his 5 top runners are from Seattle Slew line mares.
But the one that intrigues the heck out of me is Redattore. He is just dripping in class, talent, versatility, female family, SOUNDNESS, good speed and what a looker. He is an "unknown" quantity. Or is he???
