Storm Creek
Any thoughts on this stallion? He's moved from Florida to Kentucky and then to California. His price dropped to 5K.
All men are equal on the turf - or under it.
Re: Storm Creek
hi Intrinsic Worth
Fast forward a couple of years. Storm Creek got some very strong, typy young horses...the kind that looked like they might be early. In conjuction with his well-timed dispersal...Mangurian sold his young and seemingly very hot young sire Storm Creek (by Storm Cat) to Taylor Made Farm (and associates) for a good chunk of change.
Subsequent to his announced move to Ky, Storm Creek's yearlings seemed to sell like hot-cakes...and there was what might be described as a feeding frenzy of sorts, to the extent that securing a season to him (at his new home...Taylor Made) seemed to be the vogue. Arguably...he was hot as a firecracker.
Expectations were VERY high for his early runners...and he did have some early success, fueling the frenzy...but Storm Creek cooled off...interest in him diminished (maybe slid is a better description)...and he never seemed to recover from his downward spiral. Storm Creek's welcome had apparently worn thin...and ultimately Taylor Made said good bye (and probably good riddens) to him.
It's probably fair to say that there's not much of a dream connected to Storm Creek.
Respectfully
Harry Mangurian started his young stallion Storm Creek at stud at his Mockingbird farm in Ocala. Mangurian was known for supporting his young stallions and Storm Creek was no exception.Intrinsic Worth wrote:Any thoughts on this stallion (Storm Creek)? Thanks for the info!
He's been somewhat successful down under, however a person from NZ was trying to argue with me that he is a really good sire here, just underrated. I didn't think Storm Creek had done much and told them if they liked him, they may have him permanently sometime in the future. Drops in stud fee and breeding only 41 mares doesn't sound to me like he's in great demand in CA.

Actually Taylor Made still owns him. He's been relocated but not sold. He also does Southern Hemisphere duty in New Zealand.
One of Storm Creek's problems here is that he has never had the big horse and California is somewhat fickle. Breeders flock to the flavor of the month (Swiss Yodeler, Atticus, Cee's Tizzy, Memo, Bertrando) and then abandon them in a season when they do not produce as well or something else comes along. But if something suddenly runs well, they all suddenly back in force.

True, Sysonby,
The CA breeder is not always logical. We have a Storm Creek yearling that is just about as nice of a colt as we've had in a long long time. He will still produce some runners. Rancho San Miguel is a class place, and lowered their stud fees across the board this year. Just trying to stay competitive, I'd guess.
