Kiridashi and General Royal

Both horses recent additions to stallions standing in Alberta. WHy have they ended up there, were they flops in the previous states or is this a move that will improve the stallion power in Alberta?

Probably a little of both.

If a stallion isn't attracting much attention in the ocean it makes sense to move him to a smaller pond where he might be more welcomed... :D

General Royal (if, I'm not mistaken ) is club footed. I should think that would have hurt him tremendously. I have never seen him, but found this info on a website. Anyone out there who actually saw him?

I saw General Royal last year. I am not sure he is club footed but he really paddled with his left front when just walking. I remember thinking that I can't believe that this horse was able to canter, let alone win a stakes race. I was afraid to breed to him.

When he was a freshman sire in 2002: Kiridashi stands for $6,500 at Park Stud in Orangeville, Ontario.
He is a Canadian-bred.

I trained a Kiridashi last year and she won a bad maiden, as a four year old this year she may do better but by and large they are a disappointing lot. I think they would move up on the grass like him but the only grass in Alberta is a long way from the track.

They ended up in Alberta because they were available for not too much money and Alberta buyers saw more opportunity to recover their modest investment. Neither can be said to enhance the calibre of stallions in Alberta although General Royal offers bloodlines that are not offered by other regional sires. Breeders in other markets quit on them, and breeders in Alberta aren't likely to visit them for all that long either once their foals hit the tracks here.
