Any buzz on him? I have a client who is interested, mildly, is his fee too high?

I like his pedigree and he did perform on the track. His fee is probably set too high but then so is Cuvee's in my opinion. They both entered stud in 2005 so it would be interesting to know who set the 10k price first. Until they have some runners I would be more inclined to go with State City (mare depending).

Hmm. My pal's mare is from the same female family that produced Lord Carson.. wonder if they would give her a discount?

I looked at mares bred report but dont see anything listed for State City. Oversight or no mares bred last year?

Never hurts to ask for a lower fee. I would.

Lord Carson.....sad story.

State City stands his first year this year. He's overpriced and in a competitive price range. I'd haggle.

austique your probably right, but stallion register shows him entering stud in 05. Explains why he didnt make the mares bred report.

Your opinion on Cuvee's fare?

I actually was quite soft on Cuvee before, but I'd have to say that he's grown on me to the point where I'm considering using him next year even though it will be his bounce year. I like Pollard's Vision a lot too. I probably prefer those two to State City.

I think the State City thing is a typo. TTimes has him entering stud in 2006.

His fee is equal to that of Pollard's Vision, another Carson City son, who I think is a better deal for the money.

Pollard's Vision

Pollard's Vision for sure. I sent a nice mare to him and she got right in foal. Lots of buzz on him. City Zip doing so well also helps the Carson City line.

lot of meat in his Pollards Vision's pedigree. he looks substantial.

I would still want to peak at the mares pedigree before I picked. Looks like Carson City sons speak well of the sire.

He stood last fall on southern hemisphere time. The mares he is breeding now are his first crop Northern Hemisphere time.
We bred a mare to him and we will check her on friday.

We have a Carson City yearling, a filly that I adore. I'm just sorry we only got to breed to him once.

joeangelo,

I hope you get a +

if you feel like sharing the downunder perspective, how you came to select State City.

state city stood in western australia in 2005.he is owned locally and is shuttling!!he served 100 mares at a fee of $5000 aus..$10000 us seems a bit steep i would think..he is due to return for southern hemisphere season starting september..as we have all turf racing here i'm concerned all his form is on dirt..

5000 AUD = 3648 USD.

I would think that could provide some bargaining power for the US interested party.

At 10K here he'll need 36 mares to match his southern hem earnings. Not sure he'll attract that many.

100 mares in AUS is a pretty good book. It looks like many are taking the chance his progeny will do fine on turf. To me, why some horses run on turf and dirt well, some only do well on one surface is as big a mystery as the Yowie!
