In the last 25 years the non-Phalaris sire line mare population has declined by 90%. The stallions of today are being bred to 90% of mares from the sire line of Phalaris.

Lets use Mr. Prospector as an example of what % of SW Mr. P. produced when bred to non-Phalaris sire line mares. Remember the average % of SW for the stallion population is around 7 or 8 %.

As can be seen by the % of SW from above when we lost the non-Phalaris sire line mares, we lost our outcross and high % of SW from the cross of those non-Phalaris sire line mares.

So those are the NON phalaris lines above? Quite a difference!! And HOW sad! I went through the stallion directory recently looking at every stallions SW% (yeah I was really bored) and it seems that the % of SWs was even lower than 7 or 8%. In fact I had it at about 5% that separates a "good" stallion (included Fupeg and Giants Causeway although of course they are young yet), a better than average (precious few) around 7-9% and an even lower (like a handful or two) that had 10% or better (Storm Cat, AP Indy, etc.) Of course I guess they actually have all these stuff online somewhere (where? ) but it did make me pretty much think that if I had a mare to breed I wouldn't even consider a horse with less than 5% SWs (and a high starter/winner% too of course) unless perhaps there was some SUPER NICK that defied the odds! That seemed to run across the board regardless of fee which means the Fupegs and GC's of the world are GROSSLY overpiced!!) Heck Awesome Again is also 4% SWs. And a pitiful 54% starters? Although maybe that is the breed average, LOL. I'd rather see something in the 80s area.

Louis, where did you get your figures from?

To Halo: If you have a copy of my 1995 Edition of TB nicking Patterns go to Mr. P. and you will find the same figures I posted.

The stallion Halo has some high % of SW, with non-Phalaris mares, I'll post them later, as it would be of interest to many TB breeders.

If youre using 1995 statistics, youre obviously not using correct statistics, as you have missed a lot of his crops. Also, to make your figures of more value, you need to post the figures for Mr. P crossed on Phalaris-line mares, also.

Recently I looked up the foals to starters ratio for a few leading sires in Japan. The results surprised me...

1. Sunday Silence -- 95%

2. Dance in the Dark -- 91%

3. Brian's Time -- 93%

4. Fuji Kiseki -- 91%

5. Sakura Bakushin O -- 94%

6. Forty Niner -- 85%

Now, as we have seen, Mr. P does well above average on mares from Phalaris- and non-Phalaris-lines, we must know the base of the percentages of Mr. P's non-Phalaris-line SWs.

As You know, it is comparatively easy to optain high percentages with small samples.
