A friend of mine says that Horse Chestnut is one of the best looking horses she's ever seen.

When I'm evaluating the pedigree of a potential broodmare, I place more value on the dam's family than on the sire's. If I otherwise liked the mare, physically and family-wise, I wouldn't shy away from a broodmare by Horse Chestnut. But I suppose I wouldn't purposely seek one out.

He's gorgeous and wasn't he the SAF triple crown winner or something? So he can run a bit. He's not lighting the world on fire as a stallion but he has sired some nice runners. So like above I wouldn't shy away from him but in a broodmare I am looking more at the maternal family.

He comes from one of the premier South African female lines, for what it's worth. His dam threw 2 or 3 other stakes winners besides him, and his half sister by Plugged Nickle (!) produced a grade-2 winner. There is a lot of very consistent southern african stakes production (SAf, ZIM, MAU) in this family.
