Favorite Trick sires Texas bred, G-3 winner at Churchhill

For contemplation by those of us have questioned Favorite Trick's ability to sire GSW TBs or even very good solid runners/winners, especially once he re-located from the loftier breeding states of KY and FLA I thought this event worthy of note. Should give heart to New Mexico breeders (and Texas breeders willing to ship mares to N.Mx.). I think that especially as Favorite Trick, Clever Trick daughters and others of this branch of the ICECAPADE' line from Nearctic/Nearco have often done well as dams of good runners he represents a source of overall quality that many might consider/re-consider as worth the gamble, in a breed to race program:

I'd be interested to hear thoughts from participants on this forum that believe there might be a particular aspect of Datrick's pedigree (F.T. X French Deputy mare, etc.) that bears a lesson for potential breeders to this stallion??????

Heiligbrodt Racing Stable's homebred Datrick, a Texas-bred son of Favorite Trick trained by Texan Steve Asmussen, scored a determined 1 1/4-length victory in the $184,250 Kentucky Breeders' Cup Stakes on May 4 at Churchill Downs. The 2-year-old colt covered five furlongs in :58.37 under jockey Shaun Bridgmohan. Asmussen, who had three other runners in the field, has now won the last four renewals of the race. A crowd of 25,386, a record for the Thursday before the Kentucky Derby, sent Datrick out as the 5-2 second choice.
"Datrick ran extremely well," the trainer said. "He'll be pointed for the TTA Sales Futurity at Lone Star." The trials for that $100,000-estimated race are set for May 26 with the final on June 10.
"The other day when he won at Keeneland (April 12 in a maiden special weight race), he was on the lead all the way," said Bridgmohan. "Today, there was a horse in front of him. But he handled it really well; he was very professional about it. He waited for my cue just like he should have and when I asked him to go, he went on about his business just like you’d want him to. He’s a hard-trying young horse."
Datrick earned $109,852 for the victory to push his earnings to $136,202. In his only other start, he won a 4 1/2-furlong contest at Keeneland by 7 1/2 lengths. The colt is the first foal out of Daum, a daughter of French Deputy.
