Seattle Slew son pulled from kill pen needs HOME asap!

Postby summerhorse » Thu May 18, 2006 6:15 am

Honor Boy and two mares in foal to him were pulled from a kill pen and need homes asap. Honor Boy is very well bred and seems to be a mellow easy going horse. could be gelded for riding. Doesn't anyone want a Seattle Slew son? http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/sh ... hp?t=45693

He is a nice looking horse.
It's times and stories like this that make me wish I had some
acreage. (sigh)

I do hope someone takes him and gives him a nice home.

What happened? He was at stud one day, deemed useless and sold for slaughter the next? I continue to be amazed at how horses end up in killpens. A Seattle Slew stallion, albeit an unsuccessful one, is unbelievable.

Seeing how he has only had 3 foals and two of them are winners, he has not had a chance. What's the history on this horse, he's 17 and has only 3 foals, has he been breed to non-TBs or is he infertile? Anyone know?

Honor Boy has the the "Reines" foursome of Book Debt, Popingaol, Popinjay and Chelandy in his tail female lineage - same female family branch that produced Alphabet Soup and Clem among others of note, particularly with respect to Australia and S. America including Trinidad.

His owner bought him and these two mares and then his life got in the way and apparently these horses have been hanging out in the pasture ever since. What a waste!

This stallion has been placed per a post I read on the original rescue site but I'm not so sure about the accompanying mares. Also don't know if he's going to be gelded or stand at stud.

He's going to AZ so i suspect they will be using him as a stud. the mares however are in danger and only have until Tues. to get bailed. They DO have papers, they just need groceries. And they are supposed to be in foal to Honor Boy so a twofor each! Only $750 each, one is Stakes placed, not sure of the other but their breeding is certainly worth more than $750. I hope someone gets them.

Summerhorse,

How do you know he's going to AZ? Who bought him? Will he be standing for sporthorses or racing or both or...?

Thanks,

The rescue posted that he'd been adopted by someone in AZ. That's a long way to ship an older stallion if you aren't using him for stud (I know there were others interested that were closer although how serious they were I don't know). I guess you can contact the rescue (another chance 4 horses) and ask if they would give your info to the new owner if you are interested in breeding to him.

Update the mares have both been bailed but Bold Tension (and her hopefully unborn Honor Boy baby) need a home still!

Sadly an update on the COTH thread states that Honor Boy died (of unknown causes as of yet) on his way to AZ. He came so close to a happy ending. I believe one of the mares still needs a home but at least she is safe.
