Secretariats looks

Postby aztmccdc » Fri May 26, 2006 7:11 pm

Hi. I was wondering where Secretariat got his looks from? His parents are both plain brown. Of all the horses I could find pictures of in his pedigree he looks like Discovery the most. But none of them have his chrome.
TIA

Ok then. Where did he get his white socks from? His parents don't have them.

Actually if you look at Bold Ruler's right hind leg you will find a short sock, his dam Miss Disco has two such socks. Nasrullah also sported an anklet of white and his mother's dam is the uniquely colored mare Mumtaz Mahal. If you look further back to horses like The Tetrarch, Cyllene, and Gallinule you'll see where some more of that chrome comes from.

Also Griff I think Sec's chestnut coloration had alot to do with the overall impression he made. He'd have looked very different as a bay of any shade or even a gray. I do believe he would have been equally stunning as a black horse, just use his grandson Prince Stanley as a guide. Striking

Secretariat would have been stunning if he had been pink

This dicussion just reminds me one of the last sentences in Czech translation of Franco Varola: "Don't forget that Secretariat looked mostly like Fair Play, who figures only once in fifth generation of Secretariat's pedigree".
Certainly author couldn't write these words when looking at Fair Play's photo similar to that one on PQ, but who knows? At least his head and neck reminds Secretariat a bit, but I only wanted to add this as a suggestion

Pardon me but where do I state that Secretariat wouldn't be stunning in any color. I DON'T! I said he would look "DIFFERENT", and even as a black horse he would be "Equally Stunning! " The reference to Prince Stanley was as a guide to what the coloration might look like on Secretariat. I do believe that Secreatariat's chestnut coloration added to his persona as the "Golden Boy". I'm sorry you don't or can't understand that, but that's your problem.

I got to see a grandson of Secretariat in North Carolina a few years back and he was a chestnut with chrome. He too was quite stunning to look at.

I remember seeing a picture of (I think it was Imperatrice) as a racehorse and you could tell where he got his physical looks from. His color is simple, both sides carried and passed on an e for red (as opposed to E=black pigment) and both sides carry sabino. It is hard to find TBs that DON'T carry sabino.

I get to see a grandson of Secretariat everyday.
He's a very good looking yearling with chrome.
But he has 4 white socks instead of 3.

I forgot to add I also have a great grandson foaled this year.
Fastest foal I've ever seen, an runs all day.
I believe its the tail- female line that this speed is coming from.
