Anybody going?
It's a real mixed bag, with some that sound like really good racing prospects and some that probably should be turned into riding horses right away.
Some that caught my eye:
Hip 241, TX-bred colt, half to 3 SW and 1 SP, dam has 10 winners of 11 foals to race.
Hip 22, LA bred filly from the family of Broom Dance, half to 2 useful winners of 3 other foals.
Hip 337, Street Cry colt that is half to two stakes winners. Foaled in LA but not registered as LA-bred. 4th dam produced Lady Pitt.

I'll probabally go up for the preveiw Saturday and Sunday but have a 3YO filly racing right now - no room for a race prospect unless she does well in her 2nd start & going forward. Although there are some attractive hips this catalog is pretty depressing to me. Nothing illustrates more vividly the dramatic losses resulting from the Texas' Legislature's unwillingness to approve of slots at our tracks to augment racing purses while surrounding states have approved same.
This should be called the F-T La-Bred Sale Held in Texas.

Well, Texas is still a big state with five times the population and assets of Louisiana. The sale does seem to be morphing into a regional venue since both Louisiana and Oklahoma, not to mention Arkansas and New Mexico have higher purses. Maybe someday Texas politicians will wake up and allow our racetracks to compete? Until then, Lone Star is central to the region and a great place to pick up a future runner at a good price. In defense of Texas racing, some of us are still hanging on. The good filly Wrenice has won over 300K here, and is returning to the track when the Retama meet opens next month. We are hurting, but we are not dead yet.

Pretty pathetic sale. Yesterday there were 198 entered and 121 not sold! Didn't ck. the stats for 2day. I sold a colt earlier this year that was in the sale today. Because he's really small I knew they wouldn't get anything for him, so begged them to buy him back, which they did. I think he'll do well if they geld him and put him in the 2yr old in trng. sale next year. Saw the Indian Charlie colt that went for 130k. I like IC, but they're notorious for ankle problems.

I didn't put my yearling in the sale because he has a lot of growing to do. Good thing I didn't.
There were a few that did okay but I have no idea what their averages are:
#254 By Pleasant Tap $330,000
#276 By Even the Score $145,000
I'm going to agree with an above statement that it's still very much a 'buyer's market.' And I will ask myself once again, Why am I breeding when it's cheaper to buy?
