Regarding the Jackpot colt:

Didn't seem him, though the page looked light. And I know Skip wasn't bidding him up, as he was at the Pleasanton sale (like me, watching his horses not sell for their stud fees...sigh).

I see you got snuckered by the Ky. boys just as most small non-influential breeders do. Ky bluebloods are a closed society until they think you can add $$ to there wealth for awhile. Do you really believe there is an honest sale conducted in Ky. or for that matter anywhere? Why do you think so many people have lost interest in the horse industry? It's legal robbery at every junction in the horse industry...It's the "Sport of Kings." Private sales are the best way for small breeders with a blue collar horse or just race what you breed. Even then when you breed, break, train, and race you better have $$, or you end up in the junk pile dead broke.

Wow - you give us all hope

You are very correct in that there is a "good old boys" network - and you are either in or out especially in KY. Of that I am certain. Another thing I am certain is this - someone that I admire and trust once told me and it took me a long, long time to finally realize the truth in this statement "Trust no one". Kinda sad but very true I have found :(

20dour--what does that mean "ky bluebloods are a closed society". are you suggesting this has an effect on the Keenland sale? if someone consigns in their own name a well bred, well conditioned, well conformed animal, why would that animal fail to bring a fair price, based on your post?

I am just telling you that pedigree counts (horse and owner) when it comes to commercial sales. These guys buy each others horses just to get the false high prices to sucker some dup that has been successful in some other business to venture into the world of horse racing. Knowing this joker doesn't have a clue...he gets an agent, bloodstock specialist, a trainer, a big commercial farm seller, and BINGO the horse he pays big bucks for will never make it. He would be better off buying a 25k claimer that is already at the track with the value, class, etc. already known. He gets to see his silks race, he will win most likely, and gets his picture taken. What more could a guy want? Some people like to brag about buying the $ horse, but when reality sets into them...they want to get the lawyer because they feel that fraud was involved. (SALE REPRESENTATION) CASE IN POINT!! Thus all the vet checks, public auction, (which means anyone can bid on the horse...including the owner, or the agent for the owner) Why not have ABSOLUTE AUCTION on the horse sales? Now only people that really want to sell will sell and and only true buyers will bid...not some ringer out in the ionosphere.

Anyway, I love the sales because it circulates the money in the horse business even though it just goes in a circle right back to the big fish!
