Fasig-Tipton Texas Summer Yearling Sale Catalogue

Postby Bedouwia » Fri Aug 04, 2006 7:08 pm

The catalogue is online and the print edition is out for this sale on August 28-29. It is almost more of a Southwest regional sale than a Texas sale. On first glance there are some nice yearlings, including a full sister to Kip Deville.

Hip 104 DOUBLE FUDGE SWERL

Postby hpkingjr » Sat Aug 05, 2006 5:34 am

We have a colt, Double Fudge Swerl, Erton ex Double Chip by Crafty Prospector at hip 104 He is the only Erlton in the book. ERLTON is number 10 on the freshman list with 23 foals, 8 runners and 5 winners. His size, temperment and conformation are excellent. He is being prepped at South 64 by Sherry Raska. We are waiting for his pre-sale xrays and scope. If his xrays and scope are clean (knock on wood) we will be excited about his future. He is an accredited LA bred.

Although this sale is in Texas, it is most decidedly becoming a Louisiana market due to the VLT enhanced purses in that state.

I would venture to say that if you are looking for an athlete to race, you would be hard pressed to find a sale where there were more bargains.

Not a place to find graded stakes winners per say, but as far as good racehorses, they are here.

I'm planning to make the trip to Grand Prairie to check out the youngsters, the prices to be paid and just general principles.

This year I plan to stay over for the auction day as well as getting there early for the inspections, etc.

I would really enjoy getting to meet up with any of my fellow forum members and put faces with names (theirs and their horses' names) etc. I'll organize something - even if it's a very short 'meet and greet' at the SW corner of Barn "X" during yearling inspections. If you are at all interested it would help if you will contact me by reply or PM. Send me your preferred e-mail or cell so that I can send out an invite to whatever opportunity materializes and let me know when you anticipate you might have a few minutes to an hour to socialize. Also, let me know if you would be interested in a farm tour to some of the surrounding breeding operations near the "Metroplex" area - to check out stallions, etc.? I'd be willing to call around to the farms and see if they could accomodate a small crew of us pedigree enthusiasts.

One Warning for all concerned: I cannot think of anyplace hotter in late August than the area around the barns at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, unless it's Death Valley - where at least the air is dry. So forewarned is fair warned: come prepared to make your barn rounds in the lightest, most breathable fabric clothing you own....AND beware of our intense sun. You will need sunscreen in addition to a hat and shades as the sun just seems to bounce off of every surface including the ground to fry your skin somewhere you never thought was that exposed. Please make sure any hats worn are secure - usually we are praying for the slightest breath of wind, but when we do get it it's more likely to be in a sudden gust and young yearlings often think that hat that's been blown off is attacking them/reacting to their detriment.

Postby hpkingjr » Wed Aug 09, 2006 4:19 am

Jellac:
We are not going to be able to attend the sale. I have a fovor to ask. I would love for you (and any others who may also be in attendance) to take a look at hip 104 and give us your impressions. Any observations, thoughts, etc. would be appreciated.

hpkingjr -

Of course = will do. I can take a photo with my phone and send it to you if you'd like. Not sure I have your phone # anymore - if I ever did. IF you'd like that send it via PM.

Very sorry you can't be there - but understand. I was hoping to have the chance to meet "Fudgie's" folks in person.

TTA - Texas Thoroughbred Association hosts a seminar, "The Horse Sale" seminar Sunday AM prior to Monday/Tuesday's auction (see below for details, including how to RSVP so they'll have enough handouts for everyone) and a Pre-Sale Party that evening.

The seminar is actually quite informative, especially for a first time buyer or just a first time observer of a thoroughbred auction. The handouts in conjunction with the speakers' input are worthwhile for this sale and for study/generally for any sale.

I've never made the party before but plan to do so this year - hope I see and get to meet some of you all there.

Here's the info from TTA's website -

TTA hosts seminar, pre-sale party on Sunday, August 27, before Fasig-Tipton Texas Yearling Sale

8/22/2006

As has been the case in recent years, the Texas Thoroughbred Association will host two special events on Sunday, August 27, before the Fasig-Tipton Texas Summer Yearling Sale begins on Monday. “The Horse Sale” seminar, with a panel of horsemen offering advice on buying and selling at public auction, will take place that morning from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the traditional pre-sale party will kick off that evening at 6:00 p.m. with cocktails (cash bar), hors d'oeuvres and door prizes.

The seminar will features speakers Roger Daly (The Consignor), Jason Hall (The Buyer), Bill Tracy (Pedigrees), Jim Cullen (The Bloodstock Agent), Shirley Dievert (Resource Materials), Tim Boyce (The Sale Company), Gene Palmieri (Insuring Your Horse) and Dr. Jackie Rich (The Veterinarian & Repository). TTA Accreditation Manager and Racing Coordinator Jennifer Gibbs will be on hand to discuss TTA-sponsored races and accreditation issues, and the seminar will conclude with a question and answer roundtable.

Attendance is free to both events, but reservations are requested by August 25 for the seminar. For reservations, contact TTA Director of Marketing and Member Services Tim Bloom at (512) 458-6133 or [email protected].

This is from the new update by TTA Director, Dennis Hopper. It should be a "hot" sale at Lone Star next week.

IT’S SALE TIME! BRING A CHECKBOOK TO F-T YEARLING AUCTION MONDAY, TUESDAY
More than 400 yearlings have been booked to pass through the ring at the Texas Thoroughbred Sales Pavilion on Monday and Tuesday during the Fasig-Tipton Texas Summer Yearling Sale. Many of the yearlings boast pedigrees that include fashionable Texas sires Open Forum, Littleexpectations, Uncle Abbie, Valid Expectations and recent import Running Stag.

Lane’s End Texas resident Open Forum currently checks in at number 30 on the national 2-year-old sire list. His undefeated son Be a Resident won both of his division’s richest stakes at Lone Star Park this summer – the Texas Thoroughbred Association Sales Futurity and the first leg of the Texas Stallion Stakes. Four colts and a filly represent Open Forum in the sale.

Littleexpectations, who stands at Q6 Ranch in Salado, ranks 11th on the national freshman sire list and is the sire of two colts and two fillies up for auction. Another resident of Salado, Key Ranch’s Uncle Abbie holds the 43rd position on the second-crop list and has a gelding and a filly entered in the sale. Running Stag, who recently left Florida for Turf Express Stud in Collinsville, is represented by a colt and a filly in the catalog. Perennial leading Texas sire Valid Expectations, who also holds court at Lane’s End Texas in Hempstead, has 11 sons and seven fillies set to go through the ring.

As of Friday, the outs are hip numbers 40, 71, 75, 173, 174, 220, 316, 331, 357, 387 and 432. The sale begins at 10am each day and will be preceded on Sunday by TTA’s Horse Sale seminar and pre-sale party. For more information on those events, visit www.texasthoroughbred.com or call the TTA office at (512) 458-6133.

It will be interesting to see how the Sale goes - especially for the Texas-breds. I wish I could be more hopeful - and having said that I'm sure an outstanding individual or two will get a good price - but I suspect that the La-breds and those by Ky based stallions will get the most attention, perhaps the Ok and NM breds as well but they are not very many. On the other hand with oil prices up there is a lot of money flowing into the SW states right now and that often translates into more/stronger TB sales.

FYI - The only way to get to the catalog on-line is via the Texas Thoroughbed Association site's link - it's not been available on Fasig-Tipton's site since early this morning despite what is stated there (curious marketing ploy that is?????).

I plan to attend the Sale Seminar, then check out the yearlings - especially Hip 104 and the Commancheros that are listed, a few other offspring of 'fav' stallions or those with first/second crops for sale to see what they're throwing. I'll be in a bright green shirt jacket with jeans: a short, mid-life female who is 'fluffy' (not fat!), sporting short, salt and pepper hair - mostly salt - and I'll have a "Kearl Racing" team sun visor on when outside. IF you see someone fitting the description - please don't be shy - introduce yourselves! I'll also be at the Pre-Sale Party and plan to stay for the auction session Monday at least thru the sale of Hip 104 - hpkingjr's colt. (NOTE: Double Fudge Swerl is the only Erlton in the sale BTW, so he should get some attention among the La-breds). As it turns out I can't stay over Monday, watch all the yearlings go thru the ring or do the stallion tour I suggested above - a family member is ill so I'm sneaking out of town for only a few 'stolen moments'.

I have the phone numbers of those who have PM'd that they'd like to meet or get a report and will make one last check for any late PMs early tomorrow morning....and to Diane: 'No - I am not taking a trailer !' To all who are going to bid or watch their "babies" sell - Good Luck!

Hip 104

Jellac:

Thanks so much for checking on Fudge. It's been 3 months since we saw him. All you can do is hope that he has continued to grow and develope. His xrays and scope were clean so that was good news. I will await your impressions and picture. For any other folks at the sale, I would also value your opinions and thoughts. Thanks again

Just to clarify, there is now a link on the fasigtipton.com site to the Texas sale. I had been using my paper catalogue, so don't know when it disappeared, or reappeared on line. Anyway, it is online now at this time. Best of luck to all involved.
