Keeneland sale

Postby henthorn » Mon Oct 30, 2006 9:57 am

I just booked reservations at the Extended Stay America at Patchen Village for November 8-12 on Priceline.com for a reasonable rate package including rental car.

I expect to see my horses, some stallions of interest, and attend the sale to evaluate weanlings of newer stallions. Anybody going? Maybe we can get together for horse viewing and/or food and discussion. I'm not purchasing on this trip, so I'll be very selective on which ones to check out--mostly foals of $12,500 to $50,000 stud fee stallions. I know some of them are higher or lower in 2007, but if they aren't selling in the first week, they must not be commercial.

Good thing you didn't pick the Extended Stay on Nicholasville. I was supposed to stay there when I first arrived back here and after one sniff of my room I went back and demanded my money back. I'll be here but I'll only be around the sale on the weekends and the night of the Fasig-Tipton sale.

I was supposed to stay there recently and all I had to do was drive up to the place before I went in and demanded to have my res. cancelled. And I've actually stayed at the Microtel several times, so you know the ESA was bad. The Microtel sucks, but I feel like its location is much safer and I know what I'm getting. At least they have interior corridors.

I plan on going the second week, staying with friends. Selling one stallion prospect and several mares. I always take a break to visit the new stallions--would enjoy meeting you.

The Red Roof Inn across the parking lot from the ESA was very nice for a cheaper price. I had to stay at motels the first few nights before I found an apartment and I ended up moving to the Red Roof Inn on Richmond for my next night which wasn't as nice. I had been staying at Motel 6's and Super 8's on my drive out and anything is nicer than those (except the ESA on Nicholasville). But the ESA smelled like an uncleaned hamster cage. It was horrible and after spending four days in the car I wasn't going to put up with it.

Will be looking forward to your take on the "new boys" in town.

Have a great trip,

BC weekend and November Sale

Postby jagger » Tue Oct 31, 2006 8:12 am

We will be getting into Lexington this Friday. We stay at a very nice Bed and Breakfast in Midway. Lexington B&B's are very nice and not as pricey as the ones on the east coast. Going to a BC party at Madelyn's on Friday. Avalyn Hunter is going to attend and looking forward to meeting her. Having dinner with Ellen Parker the following week and am ecstatic about meeting her. Will be at the sale but not sure what days. Would welcome hooking up with any forum members.
