Bottom line is...use your judgement. If you don't like the horse and it seems like it's been abused...uhmmm...don't bid on it. But, it seems you know what you are looking at, so I think you'd be ok to check...and be sure to check any you are interested in closely and make a good personal examination...that's really your best bet.

Otherwise, do what makes you comfortable and raise your own. Either way, I wish you luck with finding the race horse you want and lots and lots of luck and good wishes when said horse gets to the track.
