Not trying to speak on anyones behalf but i think it has more to do with the "Breeders Incentives" and being able to have a horse compete and make alot of money to make the family look better on a page.
I dont think it was a slam on SH peeps.

I find hip #113 quite interesting. I also like the broodmare, hip #172. I feel there is a good upside there.
Others that I think may have potential:
Mares: #186, #198, #202, #213.

Of course, you'd love them to go on and have nice, productive homes as a second or backup career. But a yearling that goes straight to sporthorse results in a produce record that says unraced, zero dollars. Nobody in the racehorse breeding business wants a single one of those if you can avoid it.

Well, fer one thing, the WEATHER. We are just coming out of another "event storm", which means major flooding, roads closed (Interstate 5 is closed between Seattle and Portland - and the only detour is to go around on I-90 through Yakima and come back in at Portland!) people unable to travel, etc.
Mind you, this started in on Friday night, so a lot of people who might have gone to the sale undoubtedly were smart enough to stay home! I can guess there are horses that may still be waiting for a ride, too, as I can't imagine wanting to take horses anyplace Sunday night or yesterday. I had to take the long way home from work, as SR 522 was closed, all four lanes, due to flooding in the Woodinville area - heck, our office park had water backing out over the banks of the slough and running under the buildings!
All in all, a miserable weekend to have a sale....I feel badly for the consignors this year.

There didnt seem to be alot of people walking around Saturday looking or tire kicking the horses. Spent 4 hours tire kicking and seen alot of horses.
If you were a buyer there were some very good deals to be had , on the other hand if you were a consigner you might of took it in the shorts on a few of the sales. Wish I had another trailer over there I would of came back with two trailers full.
There was also alot crooked looking horses there ( pigeon toed, club foot, knots on knees and ankles etc. )

Also breeders are dreamers to their core and TB breeders dream of wins. lt's as if a dressage person planned a mating specific to their discipline, poured over bloodlines and watched video after video of stallions until finally selecting the one to create a premium piaffing baby only to find out 2 years later that the only serious buyer is a nice woman who's looking for a trail horse. Not a tragedy but not how you drew it up on the blackboard and very disappointing.

There weren't enough buyers for the horses. Obviously it's not a good proposition for many people to add a horse to the feed bill with the cost of hay and everything else, and then send it to EMD to break down.
It was shameful to see people laughing about horses that didn't get bids.
The weather really wasn't too bad - snow early on Saturday but it didn't stick for too long. Sunday horses were showing under cover but again it wasn't bad. Better at EMD than it was up north!
Anyone know what'll happen to the Seawind Stable horses that got no bids? Or any of the others that got no bids?
