Open Yearlings sale yesterday: Say Florida Sandy yearlings

Postby Toccet02 » Wed Aug 16, 2006 7:18 am

:(

Sure didn't sell well, or at all!
Any thoughts on this?
I don't think the mares of his foals were great...but do you think this is a sign that the sire's acheivements are being ignored? Does no one want a first crop yearling?

Thanks

There was not alot of Buzz about them. That sale was just terrible. There were actually some poorly cared for horses there. Tipton must have taken a beating.

That looked like it wasn't even worth going to watch!! Actually a painful sale for some folks. As for the SFS first crop to hit the sales... lets hope they are runners.

Some horses didn't even get bids. And not one horse went over 50k. That was a horrible sale.

FYI: Say Florida Sandy had a $15,000 yearling sell at Fasig-Tipton on Monday. Don't count this guy out...I have seasons to him, I bred my own mare to him, and I've seen his babies. He stamps them so much it's almost scary, and they're big and correct, too, just like dad.

On my 'to watch' list, too.

I've seen a couple of his youngsters here in PA & like what I see. Unfortunately for a 1st year sire, some of the ones at the earlier sale made a bad first impression of him that he will hopefully be able to erase later.

I wouldn't take the sales results too seriously. Yearlings of regional sires typically bring nothing until the stallion has runners, especially if the stallion is not being promoted. He is not on the national radar, and many/most of the regional folks breed a mare to him if they want one of his foals. Remember the prices on Malibu Moon's first crop? I think they may have averaged $4,500. This is despite the fact that he was getting a lot of nice individuals. I remember looking at some of them, and thinking that I really liked what he was throwing. There was one MM weanling in particular that I saw on a friend's farm. I thought he was the best weanling I had seen that year, and thought about making an offer on him until I found out he was by Malibu Moon . . . one year later he was known as Declan's Moon. There's a freshman in Maryland I'm starting to watch because I like what he is throwing - - Seeking Daylight. At the moment, these are typically bringing nothing . . .
