Pedigree Query

Hey everyone out in New York -- I was browsing the on-line catalog for the NY Breeders' Sales Company sale next month. Lakland North is selling off a lot of stock. Does anyone have an impression of Read the Footnotes' babies, what they look like, how they're generally being talked about by the horsemen, what they think of the sire?

I do know more about Freud, since he has runners, and I've been reading another thread about him, and I have seen him. The photo of Hook and Ladder isn't all that great on the Lakland site, though he sure did have some high-priced yearlings. Anyone seen Hook and Ladder who would give me your impression of his conformation, looks...?

I have a Notes in my consignment for that sale. He is very correct but a little behind (small) as he had a rough time at weaning. I think the owners will keep him in the sale though as they need to generate a little money. He is out of a good sized stakes winning Dixie Brass mare and he is an April foal. He probably would make a real good sale yearling rather than selling as a weanling but...hopefully some buyer will do well with a pin-hook. Feel free to stop by my consignment if you want a look.

Any comments on Hip 130?

She is really really nice! Well balanced! Either her or Hip#146 Candy Ride colt, will be my highest price weanling. She has had some improvements in her page since publication as well. The dams 1/2 came in 3rd in the Cradle stakes. I love Strawberry Road mares!

What sort of prices, average and median are expected at this sale, it seems a decent sort of catalog.

Thanks Crystal, I'll get the web guy to get that fixed. I'll have all the updates available next week and get some more/new photos of the hips up. The owners, understandably, want them to be in top shape before photos are taken. Others are willing to have a new photo up each week as the prep goes along. They can change a lot week to week.

Bonzer, I think the catalog is pretty good to. The Lakland dispersal obviously is a big boost but of the NY selected weanlings, I think 35 or so could certainly be Preferred yearling next August. In my consignment I have first crop sires Read the Footnotes, Bold Truth and Candy Ride as well as established guys like Northern Afleet and Artax.

Looking at the catalog there are also weanlings by Bernstein, Brahms, Birdstone, Cactus Ridge, City Zip, E Dubai (Thats a hot stallion) Kafwain, Phone Trick, Tenpins, Street Cry, Trust N Luck, Toccet, Thunderello, etc... Pretty good for NY bred catalog. I just hope the buyers come this year. The past couple years it has been a total buyers sale. A yearling I prepped 2 years ago sold for less than $4,000. I thought he shoulda/woulda sold for $15,000 at Midlantic, if the sellers had gone that route. Well he can certainly run, he has made$75,000 on NYRA tracks this year including a win at Toga.

Hope to see some folks stop by. I hired a bartender and will have some refreshments available next to our barn on Friday and Saturday. Maybe we can talk Pete into setting up a Cigar shop next door!

I went to the 2004 version of this sale (sans the Lakland part of course) and found that it was pretty sparsely attended. With KEE just finishing, and both Timonium and OBS in the next two weeks, I wonder how many buyers are going to be left? That said, it is a pretty exciting catalog for these parts...so I'm looking forward to it.

Can anyone give me some thoughts about 282: Silver Music- Gallantina?
An idea on what sort of price he might go for?

I notice he was in the '05 sale and thought someone might be familiar with him.

Hook and Latter as well as Dream run are not very large horses...though they are both well built.

I was at the farm 2 seasons ago and have since bred 2 mares to Freud the last 2 yrs. I'll be going to look at Notes as soon as he hits the farm
