Cross Post Buying/Selling NY bred did not sell at open sale

Postby secretlink » Fri Aug 17, 2007 12:12 pm

I hope this is ok to put here also...?

Seraphin Fire
We took her to the open yearling sale and she did not sell, we were told it was because of her sire. She has totally clean x-rays and a B scope. Very sweet filly with a lot of game. Her brother is a 2 y/o who is training at Saratoga. The owner/trainer are very pleased and excited. The mare has a Prime Timber '07 filly also. "Sera" is at our farm in VT. I would like her to go to a racing home and am open to offers. (Updates on page: Driving Ms. Maizey has won 3 races and $25,404, Endless Virtue has won $178,670)

Did anyone tell you why? Was it the 3x3 Halo that might trouble some folks?

Hi Madelyn,
They said she got looked at quite a few times, but people could not get past Rock and Roll. This mares other two foals went through the sales and sold, a Matty G through the prefered sale and a Desert Warrior through the open last year... I hope I can find her a good racing home. She has a nice young family... the 05 Desert Warrior is really nice, as is this filly, but he is already showing lots of promise.

Wow. That would have been good to know a couple of years ago when the mare was first booked to that horse.

It was also a very bad sale. Think about putting him in the NY breeders mixed sale. I know it sounds crazy but I had several yearlings in last year that I thought sold beyond their value. There are very few yearlings in that sale so it's a classic fish/pond thing.

That open sale was just full of $5,000 horses so people could pick and choose and buy what they wanted for $2,000! I have a bunch left also If people want to check out my website. Also have 2 left from the preffered. I did get hip 421 sold for $135,000 though. My first 100 grander as a consignor. Great, Great, horse, looks exactly like E Dubai.

Sorry that your Rock and Roll didnt sell. I have a couple yearlings here that I decided not to put in the sale at the last minute and now I am glad I did.

Topsmeade...nice sale on #421...I have seen his 1/2 brother quite a few times in Sal's barn and he is a looker so I can imagine what this yearling looks like CONGRATS

I just hope I can get her into a nice home headed twords racing. I sales preped her myself (and it was a lot of work even with just the one! Lots of respect to those who do lots!!!!) If she does not sell I guess I will start her under saddle and head her twods a two year old in training with someone finishing her off... I would prefer not to keep her that long! She is luckly a very sweet girl, she thought she would not see her pony friends again so I can tell you when she saw my husband come to take her from the sale grounds she just jumped on that trailer asking what kind of crazy camp we sent her to :) lol

The 2yo sales were dead cold this year and that has trickled down to the yearling market. If you are the breeder I would advise racing yourself. If you think Rock and Roll was a chilly sire for a yearling he is down right glacial in the 2yo sales. I have been in your shoes before. In fact, I am in them again..good luck.

Just wondering what you decided to do with your lovely filly.
Rock and Roll had an impressive race record, and his first crop is only 4 years old. And he obiously was sound to have all those starts.
I see that he hasn't produced anything yet, but if your filly is any example, he is capable of producing a racy looking horse.
Best of luck with her.

The consignor I had had her with thought he had an interested buyer, but they disappeared... She is happy back home with our other horses, just being a baby. I hope that we can sell her into a race home. She really is a nice looking girl! She is also so easy and sweet with clean x-rays and a B scope. She has a two year old half brother we sold last year that might still make his debut this year as well. Any one interested should contact me :)
