Okay - I was there for books 6, 7, and 8 and I always go with the intention of evaluating the stallions (the new ones anyway) via what they have thrown. I came away with enough impression to help with selections for next year's matings.
There are three primary criteria considered when evaluating the individuals - correctness, size, and flash.
Observations on their yearlings.
Century City - Quite a surprise. At 5k he is a bargain
During - Typey. Well built and flashy.
Canadian Frontier - Almost all of them were solid individuals
Soto- Didn't expect this. Didn't like him going in
Saarland - Big and flashy.
There were a bunch of others that I didn't like. But these 5 (Saarland's problems aside) are worth considering.

Don't be put off by Saarland's issues if you are serious about liking his yearlings. At the end of last breeding season the farm began keeping the mares 2-3 days prior to ovulation. They were closely monitored for ovulation and bred spot on. His conception rate was MUCH better with these management practices. Starting these same practices at the beginning of the 2008 season should have him with almost normal fertility numbers for the season. The best part? Mare board AND vet care (palp, flush, etc) are at the syndicate's expense while at Darby Dan. That's quite a commitment and resounding show of support for a $10,000 stallion.
