If we [HiddenEchoFarm & KBEquine] are there, it'll be over the weekend & we will probably be wearing "Hidden Echo Farm" shirts or hats . . . Stop us, if you see us, and say hello!

I'm sick of the office so I'm feeling a 24 hour bug coming on for Tuesday. I won't be really seriously looking for anything - I'll probably spend most of the afternoon at Michaels drinking manhattans.

After my 7th or 8th maybe I'll make it back accross the street and bid on something :D Nothing bad can come from that, right?

On a serious note - I always like this sale from a buyers perspective - there are a lot of horses (for a mid-atlantic sale anyway) and I really think the little guy can do OK at this sale.

If you are buying maybe, but if you are selling, it is often a real tragedy.

I did not look at all yearlings and mainly concentrated on looking at offspring of stallions within my stud fee range (except the Thunder Gulch filly but I was at the consigner's tent and I saw her being shown so I asked to see her). Therefore, the higher-priced stallions are not on my list.

The best looking colt I saw was Hip #350 (Montbrook - Quiet Lake). In addition to being very correct, he just seemed to have that cat-like, coiled-spring manner of moving. The best filly I saw was Hip #423 (Thunder Gulch -Shesastonecoldfox). She was a bit on the small side but very correct and extremely fluid in her movements. The second best colt I saw was Hip #91 (Perfect Soul - Island Mint). He was a very correct, well-balanced, handsome colt. The second best filly I saw was Hip #859 (Holy Bull - Exclusive Hold).

Anyway, in addition to the four above, my top picks were (by Hip # order):

Hip #86 - filly by Chapel Royal - Inside Story
Hip #159 - filly by Alphabet Soup - Let's Toast
Hip #298 - colt by Housebuster - Parting For Home ---- I didn't ask to see this one but when they called out the number the groom brought this one out instead (translation problems?). Anyway, the colt was so nice I did my full inspection routine on him and I am glad they made the mistake. He is very correct and nice.
Hip #299 - colt by Holy Bull - Passing Fancy --- big colt and he looks like his dad.
Hip #318 - colt by Essence of Dubai - Political Debut
Hip #469 - colt by Hold That Tiger - Spiritofthenight
Hip #542 - filly by Saarland - Top of the Noggin
Hip #559 - filly by During - Twice as Golden
Hip #634 - filly by Mutakddim - Alina Gato
Hip #657 - filly by Polish Navy - Anniversaried --- I fell in love with her and wish I was buying because I'd take her home
Hip #698 - colt by Bowman's Band - Boston Princess
Hip #796 - filly by Polish Miner - Dara Gold
Hip #812 - colt by Seeking Daylight - Distant Star
Hip #813 - colt by Alphabet Soup - Distinctive Manner
Hip #844 - filly by Chapel Royal - Elusive ---- she was the biggest Chapel Royal filly or colt I saw and besides being very correct, she was very pretty

I pretty much liked all of the Domestic Disputes as most of them look exactly like him (but I am prejudiced because I have a DD weanling) so, to be objective, none of his offspring are listed above. Also, being from Maryland, I have seen most of the Maryland sires' offspring previously so did not inspect many of them, therefore they are not listed above (except for a few). I was disappointed in the Olmodavors, Durings (except the one above), and Kafwains which is a shame because, on paper, I liked these stallions going in.

I only saw one Domestic Dispute go through the ring and thought he brought next to nothing. I think it might have been 7k if that. He was a spitting image, so it couldn't have been his looks that they didn't like. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the sale pans out for him.

The Officer filly out of our mare Mt. Eden (not our foal) brought $28K..I cant decide after looking at todays results if that was good or bad?
I am worried about my clients filly tomorrow...seems like prices on the Wisemans Ferry arent so good.

Anything that doesn't reach the stud fee is bad in my opinion, but if they didn't put an RNA on the horse then they must have been willing to take whatever they could get. Even the Not For Loves were weak today, which really surprised me. Usually people fall all over themselves bidding on them.
The numbers are actually higher than last year which is surprising, I guess those couple of high ones skewed the average. Best of luck tomorrow Gerry on your friend's horse.

I'll tell you what if you had any money to spend today and didn't want a huge baby you had your pick of the candy store today. It was pitiful the prices some of these yearlings were going for. Yes, some had minor faults, but there is no such thing as perfect.

I don't understand why big sells? If I want a racehorse, I don't want an elephant that is going to be that much harder to keep sound, I want something that will be able to run. Don't tell me the smaller horses get intimidated in races, some of the ornerest horses I've been around have been small. Don't give me the stride size argument either, heard it before. If the horse is an athlete, it will win no matter what.

Winds I couldnt agree with you more! I raised a foal last year that was nearly 16h as a true yearling (12 mo old) (no growth enhancements) he was an idiot would get cast in the MIDDLE of his stall....another yearling same age, same sire was barely 15h at the same age and he was the most athletic individual you would ever want to see.--his dam BTW was also barely 15h and earned over $100K while the dam of the other one over 17h and never made a start.

I just don't understand it. We didn't sit to far from 2 other posters on this forum and we kept looking at one another with perplexed looks on our faces. At one time a "yearling" came out and I looked over at them and said " I thought this was a yearling sale, not a horses of racing age." It was unbelievable.

A few years ago I sold 2 fillies, half sisters, the first one was by Gold Token, she was an average size, but athletic, we got 30k for her. The following year I sold her 1/2 sister by Austinpower (Jpn), no one knew her sire, and she looked like her sister, we got 35k for her. Yesterday we wouldn't have got 7k for them. They both turned out to be nice runners and money earners for their owners. This sale is disgusting, not by the horses they are presenting but by the buyers stupidity.

I wish I had read this thread before I went to the sale, I'd like to meet you Gerry, or anyone else from this forum that was there.
