I think the FuPeg backlash has stretched a bit far now. Reminds me of the early rejection of Lemon Drop Kid and Point Given offspring.
I realize these 2 babies (164-271)could be crooked as could be, but I think FuPeg is becoming an automatic cross-off, and that will end up being shortsighted. Would have been awfully tough to keep my hand down on #271...very nice female racing class.
On the BM side, there is a few very nice racemares i/f to FuPeg...the lack of interest in him, may keep the prices on the mares down a notch or two from where they might otherwise be. It'll be interesting to see.

Except that the FuPegs sold well early, while the LDK and PG offspring tanked at the sales. Fu Peg's dismal sales are a reflection of his (to date) lackluster performance at stud.
He has the two Gr-1 winners in Australia that folks are talking about, but even they don't impress me much. Haradasun is a half-brother to Dubai Duty Free winner Elvestroem and Floral Pegasus is out of a full sister to two Gr-1 winners, one of whom was a champion. You'd be hard pressed to find better mares than those two. His other graded winner this year, Tipungwuti, is out of a five-time stakes winning mare who is half to a Gr-3 winner and a multiple listed stakes winner of almost A$390k. Again, he rode the coattails of that mare. The rest of his Aussie-bred runners aren't much to write home about, and the buyers down under are somewhat loath to breed to a horse whose progeny have a reputation (deserved or not) as fragile nutjobs.
On this side of the Atlantic, he has Roman Ruler and Bandini and...and...and...and not much more. His average earnings w/o his top earner is about $51,000. Even Mr Greeley does better than that, and he's an absurdly overpriced stallion if ever there was one.
He's seen the best mares he's ever going to see. He didn't produce the goods. Commercially he's toast, and pricewise he's still too high for the breed-to-race crowd.
I wouldn't sing his swan song so fast.
Yesterday, in addition to the two mentioned, FuPeg also had a $155,000 colt. Today he had a $550,000 colt and two fillies sell for $275,000 and $185,000 respectively.
With all of the big numbers flying around, so far there has been a $20,000 Smarty Jones, a $50,000 Smart Strike, a $75,000 Distorted Humor, and a $60,000 Dynaformer. Other than the weird fascination like slowing down and watching a car wreck, it may not mean much overall.

Fu Peg got himself a date with Makybe Diva this season....the quality of his mares hasn't hit ground zero yet.

I've never been as surprised by the relative failure of a stud to reach the top ranks as I have been by FuPeg, with the possible exception of Wajima. I still wouldn't be surprised if he got a big horse in the US, but, as other posters have noted, I doubt he will continue to get the sort of gilt-edged mares he's gotten in the past.
