My 1996 broodmare Shake On It is hip number 425 on day two of the sale, next Tuesday. She is consigned by Brookdale Sales as agent. We are hoping this is an optimal time to sell her. She is by Affirmed out of the Bargain Day SW mare Starolamo. She has five live foals in seven years, and is also in foal on April 25 cover to Eddington. Her first runner (2001 Motion Approved by With Approval) is a multiple stakes placed winner still in race training. Her 2003 filly was injured and only ran twice, unplaced; beautiful Alphabet Soup filly named Wordplay, now training for the show scene. Her 2004 Geri filly Stage Center is a multiple winner (dirt and turf), and is scheduled again to race this Saturday at Fairgrounds on the turf. Her 2005 Sligo Bay filly is in race training, not yet started. She has a Vicar 2007 colt as well.
We are in hopes that the Eddington cover will increase her value at sale at this time. Send me a private message if you have a special interest in this mare. She doesn't arrive at the sales barn until Saturday and is currently near Versailles, KY.
Got to tout my own sales horse at Keeneland

She's a nice mare, and I have no way of knowing what she'll bring. I suspect $25,000 would be the basement, but who knows. Stud fee was $20,000 plus 6% tax. She sells without reserve. If you do buy an in-foal mare, realize that there is no live foal guarantee remaining. You might consider contacting an equine insurance agent before the sale to buy insurance that takes place at the "fall of the hammer" for prospective foal insurance and mare mortality. I've sent you a PM for a contact number of my insurance agent.

I discussed with Joe Seitz the consignor from Brookdale Sales today, and we have set a low reserve price, so don't be afraid of how high her potential price might go. I've seen lots of horses inexplicably lack bidders and go for much less than expected. Naturally I hope she gets a more-than-fair price. Brookdale does not bid up their own consignment horses, unlike many others. They were highly recommended to me as honest and respected consignors. I would hope somebody with good taste and deep pockets joins in the bidding with several other folks.
Joe expects her to sell around 11:15 in the morning.

Well, we didn't profit, but did sell the mare. She brought $20,000 bid, which just satisfied our reserve. There are so many intangibles and what-ifs in this business that I'm still happy I sold her. I am reducing the number and risks involved in having multiple mares and decisions regarding them. I hope Rhapsody Farms does well with the mare and the planned Eddington foal.

Well I thought for sure she'd sell higher than 20k, as a few before her were rolling out pretty decent numbers, but then it seemed that as it got closer the bids started going low low low..... I watch the sales to try and determine what exactly ppl are looking for..... needless to say this is my third video observation and I still can't say with certainty what "it" is....
anyway she seemed like a pretty decent mare!

trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while.
touting my horse...
today, it's my turn - Hip#2480 Lady With a Fan by Lear Fan out of Gal From Dixie by Dixieland Heat. I almost pulled her when the Hip numbers came out as she is 70 from the end of the sale! My consignor said she had been shown to more people than he expected yesterday and that some of the people came just to look at her and none of his other horses. I guess they are looking for Lear Fan mares and Lear Fan isn't making them anymore....
A Lear Fan filly named Our Fan Allie (Hip$2242) is the fourth one through the ring today so we'll see how it goes. That filly's broodmare sire is Northern Dancer so it might not be so good to compare.
