Anyone going? See anything that looks interesting in the catalog?

merse,

what catches your eye, are you selling or buying?

It's interesting on the weekend my associates and I were pipedreaming and it - timonium came up in the conversation as an underrated source of "quality" in comparison to what is available closer to home (Alberta) for broodmares.

What's your opinion of #57. Her Perfect Soul colt got out of my range back in Dec. Certainly has had some big names on her dance card.

Hip #57 - Kingmambo, Danzig... yes, she has had some dance partners.

These late, mixed sales always bring a wide variety of horses together. Even if every owner is culling their herd by placing their horse in the sale, the difference in the level of cull usually means that a modest breeder can upgrade his broodmare band by acquiring another's cast-off.

I don't have any particular horses in mind as I am not really in the market to add to my board bill. I am certainly going to look at the Fantasticat Colt (Hip #71) because I am awaiting a Fantasticat foal mid-month and I saw this particular colt when he was a couple days old until he and his dam were turned out into the big herd of mares and foals. It will be interesting to see what he looks like a year later.

We are not going but I like the 3 mares consigned by Dresden Farm. I really wish I could find that pot of gold that I know is buried here somewhere :D

I agree Gerry. Those look to be nice offerings. Hard to argue with #12's family. I like the foals the other 2 are carrying. It figures I have to travel to DC on business the week after the sale :(

Certainly have to wonder what's up with 84 only having 3 starts. Big names up front though if you're not opposed to breeding. Are you going?

unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, my racing partner is out of town so i'll pass. agree w/you re: #84, i'm skeptical that she can be improved. we have a couple of mares in foal but i'd like something young to race in the meantime.

I have to wonder whether holding the sale the day after the SuperBowl impacts how many buyers they get. Or are most of the people who go to that sale local?

Actually, Drey has a thread on pinhooking under this same category that has some good info. There is a 2yr old sale here in Texas in April. Looking at last year's results, it wasn't too expensive. Not sure what has come out of it as I haven't researched. At least you'd hope you weren't getting someone else's headache.

#84 was my pick, but I didn't go to this sale. It was for the best. She went for $90,000.

My thoughts, too. Yet I was interested [but not at $90k].

Hip 84 is a homebred for a very high quality breed to race outfit. She has been trained by a future or present hall of famer. She clearly has no talent, hence her sale. She probably went for a broodmare prospect. Maybe we will be seeing her in Keeneland Nov later on this year?
