Barrett's May Sale down again

The horse market in california, and especially at Barretts, is in sad order.
Who will breed for this market?
What can be done?

I was at the sale yesterday. Good horses sold--bad horses didn't.
The theory is of course that good horses make money and bad horses make bills. Honestly I haven't read anything about the median or average but it sure felt like an ordinary May sale attending it.
