Pedigree Query

It appears that the market is much more punative on first foals this year. I have noticed that young mares who have not proven themselves are getting some lower numbers this year.

This seems unusal when many of these young mares are from stellar families. Perhaps people are demanding proven producers in this tighter market?

Now, is this me just being more aware or is this a new trend.

I think buyers were simply pulling back in all directions--and all sorts of mares got caught in the cross-fire, not just unproven ones. We sold two first foals; one sold very well, the other sold below our pre-sale expectations. It didn't seem to me that either sale had much to do with the experience of the mare.
