is there anyone down at obs that can take a pic of hip number 1089 and send it to me , I would really appreciate it. or if can't take pics look and tell me how he looks. Thanks for time.

thanks pete very much , even if you can't get pic I'd just like to know how he developed as a two year old . I own the mare so I just like to keep in touch with them , the guys at M & H are nice I just didn't want to bother them cause I know they are busy.Thanks again pete .

My sincere apologies but I wasn't able to take a picture of your colt nor even see him.

I assumed that I had time to see him on day 2, 3 or 4 but my client had to leave after day 1 (and he was my transportation) and I never got to M&H at all.

I would think that M&H wouldn't mind a call, perhaps before the sale starts (@10:30am).

Hi Matt,

I bought hips #13 (Put It Back filly) and #200 (Successful Appeal colt) for my owner.

The sale started a bit slow as indicated by the price on hip #13 ($12k). I believe she would have brought 2x or more later in the session. She worked in the same time and with as much intensity as hip #88 (Red Bullet) that brought $175k.

I found several unacceptable front ends that still brought fairly aggressive prices. The bigger the horse generally the less I allow front end problems but that didn't seem to deter bidders. Aggressive bidding dropped the number of buy backs for much of session 1 and I found that some reserves had been raised. The prices softened for a few minutes and that's when the Successful Appeal colt became available (hip #200). I underbid hip #174, a nice moving colt by Sweetsouthernsaint. I gave up on a few where I felt I was bidding against connections but some sold.

It seemed that horses without serious flaws and a respectable work brought a decent price. I was gone at 7:30am on Tuesday morning (day 2) so I can't comment on how the sale progressed past high reserves on some Canadian foals that I had some interest in. Just following prices it seems that averages are up throughout the sale.

In South Carolina I evaluated six 2yo fillies for clients. Three City Zips and a Wheelaway need some more time but a Matty G and Rock And Roll are being shipped to Belmont this week. The Matty G has always been a favorite of mine and she looks like she might be a quick starter, her name is Driving Ms Maizey. Hip #13 and #200 are already at Belmont.

I saw some 2yos NY breds slated for the May FT 2yo sale in private works.

I picked up Hip #:788. Anyone have any thoughts on pedigree? I do not know Rizzi as a sire. He is a full brother to Rich In Glory. Did anyone get a chance to see him? He moved quite nicely (on the smallish side), and is a May foal.

Congratulations!

He's a good mover, quick overlap with good reach and balance. I rated him high on stride symmetry and he carries like an athlete.

He may grow into himself but his size shouldn't bother you at all.

His family produces a steady stream of nice blue collar types in every generation. They're good runners that earn their keep and it wouldn't be a surprise if he, like his full brother, was able to make his presence felt in stakes company. The family is very flexible in aptitude and even a bit on surface. They'll sprint, short route, be competitive rain or shine and testing them on turf isn't out of the question. In short, you give the race and these guys show up.

His dam, Glory Won, was a hard knocking race mare by the under appreciated sire, Air Forbes Won. Her foals are a lot the rest of the family, tough, durable and with some quality. It's the similarities in performance that make me caution NOT to press this guy to perform at 2, because his family isn't very precocious. If he's ready to go at 2, great but by the same token if he doesn't perform at 2, don't let that get you down on him because the family history is that they'll probably run well sooner than later anyway.

From the work video he's got a nice stride and looks like he'll mature into a substantial horse. He was well sold by M+H and he certainly gives you something to look forward to this summer.

Thanks for the info Pete! We're going to give him some time off and let him settle, then bring him back when he is ready to train. There is of course no rush, he's only a May foal.

Matt congrats on the GP meet, nice win percent, keep THAT up ! Rayzin the Bar is ready to go... I went to Belmont today to see BRUSHED BAYOU, she came back yesterday. 6 months off Matt, and all I can say is *&%*&%#. I have no words, she is a walking miracle. I have three races in the next week or so: STARIA this Sunday, BRUSHED BAYOU May 4th and GUNS DRAWN back on May 9th!

There's a storm a-brewin', and it's blowing into town May 4th. Lets hook up at Bemont, come out for the race mon frere.
