Banimine should not be given until the vet is reasonably sure there are no twists. Banimine is a good pain killer but has a masking effect for some deeper problems. For a mild colic, diprone or similar is as strong as I would use without a rectal exam.

Thanks Soundfast and Specs, I put him on oil and and he seems to be coming around . He eats everything we give him and he wants more. He is starting to get bored, but he has another 3 weeks stall rest. I don't remember if I mentioned that the twist was at the cecum and so he had to close off that and build a new opening into the cecum, so we really do have a miracle boy here. Any more advice from the gang will be appreciated. Old Sam's real name is A Miner's Tale and he already has a tale to tell.

So glad Sam is still with us and if your vet says ok, one thing that helped my mares was to take them out several times a day to hand graze for maybe 10 or fifteen minutes. Dropping their head and getting a little fresh grass is good for their mind and gut but only if Sam is really calm.

Rog, it's dry here too, but give Sam a big kiss for me.

Sam is free galloping a mile now, he is still gaining weight and is looking like the old Sam. His personality is back to being a clown demanding attention and the first feed bucket.

That's really good news which is something we all need these days. Thanks for the update and let us know when he's ready to "rumble".
