People may think this is crazy, but have you tried taking her home and working there? trail riding or interval training used for event horses? Take her out alone and with a pack....

Getting off the track and building up confidence can help sometimes.

I trained a mare last year that had a similiar issue, unfortunately I only worked her for a few months over the winter, so it was too snowy and icy to go outside and do roadwork.

She was SPUN though, she couldnt be tied in the cross-ties anymore (before she went to the track she had no problem) and the area where we tacked up was beside the indoor, anytime she heard horses in there she would freak.

She also had serious issues with contact on her mouth and letting go properly.

In the end she ended up being able to collect and extend her gallop good, and we were able to ride with other horses.

Sometimes I wonder what happens at the track to some horses. Im not saying bad things always happen, it just seems to be when you get the wrong trainer.

We returned to Emerald Downs. She handled everything without issues of any kind. However, she chipped a knee so we have retired her. She will take her mother's place in the broodmare band.

Sorry to here that. Best of luck as a Broodie. I've heard that track is tough on horses.

Yes it is. The sad part is it is the only game in town. We are stuck with it.

Yes, but aren't those blazing first quarters and halves just fantastic!?

I've never understood Emerald management's obsession with speed, despite constant complaining from the horsemen about the hard surface.
