Triplets?

Postby austique » Wed Jun 07, 2006 12:48 pm

Okay, one of the new gals was diagnosed with triplets, two have been pinched and the third is still alive as of 15 days after pinching, but has anyone seen this? The mare has fertility issues...and then triplets?!? Is she trying to make up for the years she missed? :?

My thoroughbred mare had triplets the first year we bred her. We had bred her several times that year and finally put her on regumate after breeding trip number four and then she came up with triplets. We got lucky though, we pinched two and the third one did just fine, a very nice Victory Gallop filly who will be selling as a yearling this year. Pinching pregnancies is difficult with a fairly high risk of terminating both pregnancies due to the manipulation of the uterus. We usually give banamine after pinching and start the mare on regumate. After 15 days though, I wouldn't guarentee that you are okay, but your chances are pretty good.
