Pedigree Query

I don't have any experience at treating bowed tendons. I am going to look at a horse next week who bowed 4 weeks ago on the track. Left front--any recommendation of how to treat would be great. According to the 'new' owner he is pasture sound and is on turnout 24/7 with a companion. It was treated in the beginning....I have the feeling there may still be a bit of heat.
He is one of those that she got out of there to give him a new career/home basically they were going to....well you know. So hence I come in. This will be my 3rd rescue. Thanks!

If he truly bowed his tendon (examined via ultrasound and confirmed to have a lesion) four weeks ago, he should not be turned out. I give a minimum of three months stall rest. Ultrasound on a monthly basis after the second month to determine how the healing is progressing. Once the lesion is gone you can start small paddock turnout. Cold hosing and poulticing are helpful in the beginning, but since he is turned out he could probably still benefit from it.
