Stallions Don't Use Salt Blocks
We have had this problem with Basket Weave and Top Account does the same thing. They don't touch their salt blocks. Does anyone else have this problem? The mares and everyone else uses them, we have plain white blocks out with a 12:12 mineral block. They get a grain ration that that has lots of minerals and vitamins plus selenium in it but I can't say it contains any salt to speak of. They get top alfalfa hay. I have been supplementing with table salt for Basket Weave for the past couple of years but thought it was just his little idiosyncrosy (sp?). Does anyone else have this problem?

salt block
i throw a little feed on my blocks. that will work with most.
My experience, FWIW, is that stallions need the least maintenance.
Mares are eating for two, and geldings have their hormones out of whack until they settle in. Even so, my manager's gelding chews up salt and mineral blocks to the point that we don't replace them right away.
If they need it, they'll go for it.

Will, my stallion likes his but won't always go for it. It sat in the paddock for almost two weeks before my trainer said she saw him at it. Its all about his mood on what he likes at the time. There are days when he seems to love it and others when he thinks its a crime to have it anywhere near him.
Iv to come to the fact that if they want it they will use it. If not, I don't worry. My gelding is the same way, so its not always the stallions/
