has / does anyone use the fly repellant bands that go on the legs and neck? i remember hearing a year or so ago that they worked well but i'd like to get some feedback. thanks.

i've tried the leg band. I took it off after a day. decided --too high a concentration of insecticide on the skin. i used Royal Rider Fly Repellent leg wraps from Valley Vet. Excellent product for keeping flies off the leg--a light mesh that the horse can wear 24 hours with light insecticide. regretably, they've suddenly quit manufacturing these. So, I've tried all the rest of the leg wraps--all crap, though I just got in some from Dover Saddlry today called "ROMA" that appear to be a good light product that might work.

I combine leg wraps with 14 day spot off fly repellant which I apply about ever 20-25 days. the spot off slows the flies maybe for a day or so, BUT seems to kill any ticks and i'm supposing other microscopic little varmints.

for anyone interested, i tried the new Roma legwraps available at Dover Saddlry last night. they are light textured mesh and provide full leg coverage. look as if they can be worn 24 hrs. unknown yet how effective in keeping off the flies.

thanks for the input. i'm worried about the concentrated repellant on the skin, as you mentioned.

flys are beneficial to horses, they keep them moving. The only known cases a horse was hurt are when a fly got under the horse's fly mask and drove them nuts..
