I have a 2 YO in training that just develioed stess cracks and a frind suggested I look into using up a Blur Boot Electromagnetic treatment. I've tried finding info on Blue Boot Electrmagnetiic on google with no success.

Mt trainr said our options include [1] working through the problem, [2] blistering her shins f to promote blood flow and enhance healing,, [3] scraping her shins with a needle to promoteblood flow and healing and subjecting her si hins with sound shock.

She did not mention Blue Boot Electromagnetic and I'd like to do some reading on it before i throw it into the fray

Hi Griff,
You didn't say where the stress fracture is, in any case a stress fracture anywhere is nothing to fool with. The best treatment for a stress fracture is time--3-4 months.

All the therapys listed by your trainer are useful to speed healing. Some, that force you to wait on them, are more useful than others and all try to yield the same result--increased blood flow to the area creating a faster healing time--but if they don't recieve enough time off with the therapy, the fracture will recur or another area will become affected as the horse alters his stride to protect the fracture. I take issue with the first one though, you can't work through a true stress fracture and not fracture that leg or have the horse go sore somewhere else trying to avoid the bad leg. If your trainer had success with that before--the horse didn't have a true stress fracture to begin with.
The blue boot is simply to increase blood circulation to speed up healing, more humane than firing or blistering. But once again without time off that will only lead to a complete fracture. The good news is this is the best fracture to have and to know about early. It is the easiest to heal (no operations, no screws) and under proper monitoring, the horse will be given a good second chance to get to the races. Best of luck to you and your horse. TJ

AMEN to time off. Also, the scratching isn't any better than a blister. The shock stuff is expensive and doesn't do any better than the rest. Time, that is the key.

Hey Griff,

I had the same problems on some of my babies, do not get suckered into shockwave, blah blah 3 treatment...lol..I have heard it so many times.From my experiences, do what the old timers do, works the best, scrap or pin fire them or blister them and give them time. Im so tired of my vet recommending shockwave for everything...god...lol

Personally I think EMT is at least worth a try. My nephew is a sprinter in college and has EM wraps for his legs because of really bad shin splints. He swears by them. He used to get pain constantly after running but since using the wraps he hardly does.

So using the theory that you want to get blood flow into the leg I think a pair of those boots is at least worth a try. I saw some in my tack catalog that ranged from plain magnets to magnets with a battery connection that pulsated the wrap..... hmmmmm maybe that might help on my lower back pain LOL!!! :lol:

I think for less than 100 bux I am going to get my filly some just as a preemptive strike, I don't see where they can hurt at the very least.

Any EMT might work... it doesn't have to be the "blue boot" necessarily though if one is available give it a try. Some positive results are reported and sometimes not.

It's all about getting circulation to the site to speed healing no matter what the therapy involved. I'd suggest looking into what Professional athletes are being treated with today. Ask your nearest NFL / MLB trainer(s) what they are using on injuries of various sorts... or 'google' for latest techniques being used while considering all options.
