Remember "poor doer?" RIP...

Postby TB Dreamin' » Fri Oct 19, 2007 5:27 pm

You can go back to check the thread, but after all we went thru with this lovely little lass, I am in complete and utter shock to tell you that after all the tests, meds, supplements, tooth fairies, U/S's, blood tests, etc., we had her looking SO good. She was dappled and fat and happy, the queen of her "herd" of 2 other youngsters and...

Thursday morning when I went out to feed, I found her laying dead in the far side of her paddock.

Preliminary autopsy report: lacerated spleen, gross hemo-abdomen.

Somebody kicked her in the middle of the night, and we didn't know. She laid down and bled to death. She didn't struggle. My vet says it would have happened in 2-3 minutes, but it doesn't matter how long, or why it happened in the middle of the night, or that a leather halter w/her name on it hangs by itself on the corner of the director's chair in my barn, does it?

She's just gone...and so is a little piece of me....

Amy and I have been privately emailing, I took this filly off the track. She did not have an easy life, and Amy offered her a home and love. She was born as Lucky Pixum, I called her Pony Girl, because she was tiny. Amy and her family called her Flea.

Regardless of name this filly will be greatly missed, and sure did make herself known. She was a pistol....a little ill-bred, and ultimately ill-fated filly who nobody had any use for. She never saw the starting gate, she never won a dollar, she never was what the racing industry would consider a success. But that little filly walked right into our hearts, and tonight we grieve over the cruel injustice she was dealt.

My prayers go out to Amy and her husband and daughter. My heart goes out to a lost filly......

I may not know you or have even been around on this board when you first brought mention of "Flea" aka 'poor doer', but I am very sorry to read of your loss. Sometimes for reasons unbeknownst to us the things we cherish most in life are the ones most fleeting. But then again 100 years when you love something is not even long enough.

I think she passed knowing she was loved and would be missed. Anyone who cares enough to acknowledge the passing of a friend of any kind is a truly unique individual. May your family find strength in the happiness she brought you and the belief that she is now in the finest lushest pastures imaginable.
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while. :)

Sorry to hear about your horse. It is always very hard to lose one that work hard to save. Seems like horses will find a million ways to break our hearts.
