Its a good idea. but I noticed in the past with our glue ons from Yasha is that after a few weeks dirt and gravel gets inside.

Ian McKinley knows how to repair a crack. That having been noted, there are more ways than McKinley's, which I consider radical and a primary cause of Big Brown's problems. My opinioin--Shammy comment please--is that with most cracks its unnecessary to be as radical as a McKinley repair.
Additionally, I believe the equilox (or whatever he uses as the composite to keep on the glue ons weakens the hoof wall over time by depriving it of moisture. McKinely was a standard bred person. I question whether he fully understands the long term effect of a lot of what he's doing(see Big Brown, Quality Road continuing problems)for racing TBs, though it will be interesting if he modifies things over time. I would personally avoid keeping on any equilox or similar composite over a substantial portion of a hoof wall for more than two weeks, and that is probably too long imo.

I agree. I've looked for case studies concerning the long term use Equilox and have found none that were negative. As I recall the hoof grows about 1cm per month. My experience with epoxy and similar agents is limited but I believe that once applied it inhibits or detracts from normal growth. I believe you are right on with your suggestion that there is moisture deprivation.

On the backstretch, radical hoof repair comes down to the logic that to make money the horse has got to run. I'm somewhat disappointed in Ned Evans and how he has handled QUALITY ROAD.
