a horse has grade 3 left side,here they charge over $2000. for tie-back surgery/80% success.any infos on better places to go?cheaper?horse has won 5 times with it ,came to us with pharingitis.

Try a bitless bridle.

I talked to one Vet with high academic creditials and a patient on a bitless bridle that says a horse is suppose to breath through his nose when he runs and a bit breaks the seal around the mouth resulting in horses breathing through their mouth to the extent that some flip their soft palet[sic]

Know of trainer that once bought these kind of horses and made winners out of them with a bitless bridle; however, the stewards may now be a problem with that solution.

I had my gelding done at VA tech's duPont equine center in Leesburg, VA and so far he seems to be the the 80% bracket. That's a long haul for you but this is an excellent facility and their lower price may pay for the transportation.

not the soft palate just the left flap...I already have to run my horses under other trainers names for the barefoot,no lasix...,train at training centers for intervals...if i also have a bitless bridle i will run out of friends to run my horses...

I decided not to buck the system and had mine operated on in spit of being a believer.

You might want to Google the duPont Equine Center in Leesburg, VA and find out what they charge and see if the differience would pay for the transport.. Try Marian dupont Equine,, It's now u run by VA Tech

I know of no jurisdiction that will allow a bitless bridle anymore. Too bad, because I have heard they work!

Using a Cornell Collar right now with moderate success.
