Pregnancy tests for mares

has anyone tried these and if so are they accurate or a waste of money?

I don't know anyone who has used these, but it would be interesting to see if they worked. You would think they would have an easier method than palpation or ultrasound to confirm pregnancy. :)

I have used Pregnamare. It worked for me.

That is all fine and good if they work but unlike an ultrasound they are not going to tell you if your mare has twins. Trying to save a few bucks could end up costing you a lot more in the long term.

...I agree mood swings, the test is no substitute for a proper vet exam in regards to twins.

But at my place we take in rescues as well as I have my own TB's... so I often get mares in with unknown histories. based on what the barn call fee is to my place, for me it makes sense to know if I need to get a vet out to do an exam

The MIP blood test has been around for many years (30+) and is extreemly accurate.

The hormone PMSG is found in the blood of the pregnant mare in significant amounts between 40 and 100 days of gestation in the average mare, peaking at approximately 60 days gestation. After 100 days reliable results are no longer produced due to the destruction of the endometrial cups.
