Orphan foal-Lenny UPDATE!

Postby Gerry » Mon Jul 11, 2005 5:34 am

I will try to get pictures in the next day or so but...

Lenny is officially 3 months old today so I am taking him out of the "orphan" category and making him a "weanling". He is doing great! You could never tell from looking at him that he was an orphan or was so close to death at any time in his short life. He is eating 6lbs of mare and foal a day, an entire bale a hay a week (he likes to have a whole bale left in his stall and nibbles as he pleases), drinks water, leads, loves to have his feet picked. He is great! And he has even been the calming agent for Maracaibo who was such a nervous wreck around other horses!

I will get some pictures soon...but THANK YOU to everyone for your advice, thoughts and prayers! They worked and Lenny (and evil Lenny) are super!

Thanks everyone! Lenny loves attention and if that means getting his feet worked with he's ok with it. Not so happy with the halter though. he sprouts his evil Lenny horns as soon as he sees it.

haha... my yearling, nicknamed Clever Deed (by Shadeed out of Schwank by Tricky Creek.... Clever Trick) is really taking his name seriously. The other day he somehow wriggled out of his very light, well-fitted, bright green nylon halter and flung it through the bars of his stall door into the aisleway, just to let me know he certainly could....he had it on waiting for the farrier. But he was great about letting me put it back on..
