Sucking Wind

Okay I have a 20 year old mare who doesn't crib, but will suck wind and does it constantly. Anybody have any suggestions on how to stop it? Will a cribbing coller work given she's just sucking air? She basically stretches out her neck lifts her head and sucks in air making kind of a nasty belching sound. She has had some incidence of gas colic and her weight isn't exactly where I would want it and I want to rule this out as a cause.

Austique:
I heard at the American Association of Equine Practitioners Conference that "burping" is a sign of ulcers. I would try SUCCEED if I were in your shoes. It's been GREAT for me. With some horses, I saw changes in a week. With others, it took the full 90 days that it says on the package.
Good luck!

Thank you! She does sometimes act like a horse with ulcers.

No problem...I would just be sure to double-the-serving for at least hte first week. I did the horse that took 90 days for a full month...but it was WORTH the wait!
Good luck...
