I've never heard 'cold founder'. Have heard of mechanical and metabolic founder. My understanding is that the first is like it sounds, related to injury or overstress like when the oposite leg is not weight bearing for long time, feet not trimmed cause stretched white line. The second is related to toxic event (e.g. grain overload, a lot of medications, or severe sickness) usually has associated lamanitis attack.

Maybe if you look for the term mechanical founder that might help?

Interesting term. Never heard it. I doubt that any professional, who knows anything about the anatomy of the hoof and the illness known generally as founder, would use it. Whether by illness or infection or trauma, founder is the degradation of laminae characterized by inflammation. Inflammation is recognized by heat in the affected area. The use of the term "cold" seems way out of place. Where did you hear it?

You know there are all kinds of terms used in farming communities that make no sense. The farmer's wife down the road from us thinks that an ectopic pregnancy is when the fetus is carried in the back of the mother. I didn't have the heart to say anything.
