New mare- for hunter/jumper

Postby drewsbadboy » Mon Feb 28, 2011 3:18 pm

I just bought a new mare to show as hunter this summer. She's coming off the track and just thought I'd get some opinions on her pedigree. (Not planning on breeding her) I thought it was interesting that on her sire's side she has Secretariat and on her dam's side the female family traces back to The Bride. Her name is Minus Fourty Five. Thanks for any additional observations or thoughts. :D

I think that you're right and your new mare has a very interesting pedigee - with a triple dose of Bold Ruler and a fair amount of Teddy she has jump potential pedigree-wise. It looks like her dam was bred by the breeder's/owners of Summer Bird - that's pretty cool.

It would be interesting to find out why she was named Minus Fourty Five.

Best wishes with her and I hope you have a fun and successful show season and I'm glad that she has a new home. Please post some pictures of her when you get a chance.

Thanks for the response Bay. :) I did not realize her family had a connection to the breeders of Summer Bird. That's pretty cool. I'm picking her up on Friday from her trainer/owner/co-breeder. I will ask him about the name...I'm curious too (it's certainly an odd name). And I will post pics either on Friday or this weekend. I'm excited about her; she's a really kind horse and seems to have a great personality. I think she'll be a fun horse. :D

I would say that's a very interesting pedigree if looking for a show horse in jumping.

Mr Prospector is coming on strong in to the olympic arena and Bold Ruler is known for being found in lots of capable show jumpers in the world.

Lyphard has done lots of good for the French and so has Wild Risk who sired the highly influential stallions Worden and Vimy.

Worden i.e. is behind the mother line of former Swedish show jumper and Olympic team-medallist Butterfly Flip SWB and also behind behind the renowned stallion Julio Mariner TB who's blood lines are to be found within KWPN, Oldenburg etc.

Vimy on the other hand goes straight down to the British born super wonder of Germany that is Lauries Crusador. Undefeated tb-stallion in modern breeding history.

The mother line of your horse is of course also the same as Sir Gaylord and the one and only Secretariat!
